What you need to know as a New CPAP User

1)  CPAP Masks Need to be replaced every 3 -6 months


2) Your CPAP tubing is not for ever it does need replacing


3) That yes there are CPAP Filters and they do need to be cleaned or replaced every month


4) If you’re still snoring your CPAP Pressure is to low


5) That a heated humidifier is a comfort option  


6) You can change the temperature on a heated humidifier


7) If your heated humidifier is putting water in your CPAP tubing it’s called rain out and there are ways to control it


8) The water in your humidifier needs to be fresh daily do not add new water to old


9) Yes you humidifier needs to be cleaned once a week before Mold appears

 

10) You need to use distilled water in your humidifier or the minerals will corrode the bottom of your chamber


11) People you need to wash your  CPAP mask at least every other day or the skin oils make it not seal as well

 

12) Don’t use vnger , dawn dish soap or bacteria killing dish soaps to clean your CPAP Mask .

 

13) Do use mild dish soaps to clean your CPAP masks.


14) Do not use the dishwasher to clean their CPAP masks


15) Here is a big one do not Duct tape your mouth to keep it shut at night get a full face mask or chin straps.


16) If you breathe through your mouth a full face mask does exist  


17) Your face should not be bruised or marked up due to over tightening the CPAP mask get another size or try another mask design


18) There may come a time when you need to go back to the sleep lab to be retitrated with weight gain or loss or if old symptoms reappear


19) That other machine are available such as the Auto BIPAP and auto-adjust if they try hard and fail on regular CPAP.

 

20) It may take a few weeks of really pushing your self to get used to the CPAP.

 

21) You really need to get a full night sleep on  your CPAP  to really see a difference in the way you feel.

 

22) Using your CPAP for half the night helps some but the worse part of your Obstructed Sleep Apnea happens After 2 Am use it all night long

 

23) It is very common for a new user to think his CPAP machine pressure has gone down once he gets use to the pressure.

 

24) Please always call your Doctor back if you have problems adjusting to CPAP don’t let it sit in the closet.
