Hints for Traveling by Air with CPAP
While the Department of Transportation places a limit on carry-on luggage to one piece plus a personal bag, it has made allowances for medical devices such as nebulizers and CPAP. Therefore, it is important to remember to have your equipment as a carry on, never check your cpap as luggage at the airport where it could easily get damaged, lost or stolen. You’re going to want to keep it close by for use. With airport security tightening, you may also want to have the prescription from your doctor on hand should questions arise. Maintaining Facial Cleanliness Reduces Leaks
Be sure to continue to maintain your evening hygiene regimen once you have begun using CPAP. Keeping your face clear of unwanted oils will reduce air leaks emitted from the mask. Facial oil does not allow the CPAP Mask to seal properly.
Improve Mask Seal and Reduce Breakouts by Washing Your Mask Daily...
The CPAP Shack recommends washing your mask daily using a mild dish soap to remove skin oils and maintain the mask's proper seal for nightly use. Please be certain not to use any kind of alcohol, industrial strength and/or antibacterial soaps on the market as these will break down the mask and cause it to fail. Cleaning the mask daily also helps reduce the number of break-outs that can occur from the mask rubbing on the skin at night.
Proper Mask Adjustments
When adjusting your CPAP mask be sure to adjust the bottom straps evenly before you tighten it. To stop leaks, try lifting your mask off your face to reposition it. Sometimes just lifting and repositioning will do the trick. When using full face masks, try to make the adjustments while curling your lower lip in. When the mask is sealed let your lip out for a better fit.
